Biofuel can be broadly defined as solid, liquid, or gas fuel consisting of, or derived from biomass. We can see the energy crisis taking a toll on our lives and pockets even as this article is being written.
You really only need two things to make biodiesel, a supply of vegetable oil and a biodiesel processor. Biodiesel and ethanol are produced from plant oils and from edible crops meaning competition for basic foodstuffs, food or oil. It has a lower emission compared to petroleum diesel, so it has a better effect on our environment.
The production cost in some countries is still expensive. In the process they discovered that just about any kind of vegetable or animal oil that we use to cook with today can be processed into biodiesel fuel. The flexibility of biodiesel makes it an excellent option.
It could well be the alternative fuel answer we need to explore as the world's oil supplies begin to dwindle and the cost of energy continues to increase. Biodiesel can be used in its pure form or it may also be blended with petroleum diesel.
